Pillar of The ROCKSTAR Path to Social Emotional Learning
*It is important to understand that the success of each building block fully depends on the cultivation of the other pillars
TOOLS TO IMPLEMENT CONNECTION:
Connection is the genuine bond that is formed where each person feels seen, heard, and valued.
WHY CONNECTION IS SO IMPORTANT:
A well-balanced and purposeful life can only be achieved by making meaningful connections with others. It is equally important for us to feel connected to ourselves and to understand our value in those relationships.
Our ability to build strong relationships helps to regulate emotions, build higher self-esteem, lower anxiety and depression and increase overall mental well-being.
Due to COVID-19 and social media, the skill of building relationships with other individuals without being superficial has diminished causing a slew of mental health issues. Educators now face the formidable challenge of igniting students' desires and abilities to connect in all areas of their lives.
As an educator, a real-life CONNECTION with students is the only way you can make an impact in their lives. Due to Covid and social media, social interaction is no longer as personal as it used to be, so it is even more important educators have new tools and ongoing support to establish trust with their students on a deep and meaningful level.
WHERE CONNECTION FITS INTO YOUR PERSONAL BRAND:
Your personal brand is YOU! Your BRAND is everything that makes you who you are and how others experience you.
Here's the thing, most people never experience the real YOU because it's buried under insecurities, fears, traumas, anxiety, overwhelm, lack of self-awareness and self-development.
Although connection seems like a simple concept, making a bond, however, can be tricky. Others must like you, be interested in you, trust you, and want to be around you. How do they decide if they wish to do so? Simply put, if they like you, they will want to connect with you. If they do not like you, they will want nothing to do with you.
We are all “branded” which means that we intentionally or unintentionally project a certain image. Through smart communication and discipline, we can control that image and ensure healthy and productive connections.
After 20 years of creating celebrity personal brands using social and emotional intelligence as the foundation, Jonathan George joined forces with Shylla Webb to create one of the most innovative deliveries of SEL. Jonathan has built the brands for some of the biggest young names in Hollywood who have over 150 million online followers. Shylla is a 23-year education veteran and SEL creative.
The techniques of personal branding and the R..O.C.K.S.T.A.R method of SEL
together forge a unique and ground-breaking formula that is a game-changer in the effectiveness of social and emotional learning in education.
HOW TO DEVELOP CONNECTION:
Creating a strong connection is easy for some. For others, developing in all other areas of the R.O.C.K.S.T.A.R. method will be key to building strong relationships. It’s difficult.
VERY IMPORTANT THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
Set clear intentions for the relationships you want to create
For a developing child, this doesn’t have to be more than creating a loyal friend; having fun, or being around others who are smart. As a child ages, those intentions can become more detailed.
For an adult, it is important to be very intentional about who you allow into your life. Know who, what, and why you are building connections in order to feel fulfilled.
Understand your value and what you bring to relationships
Be vulnerable
Be authentic
Make others feel seen, heard, and valued
Be fully present when interacting with others
Turn off phones or other distractions
Be curious. Learn to ask questions.
Don’t make it all about you
Show empathy, kindness, and gratitude
Be receptive to how others value you!
